WIST, April 14 -- The Songkran Festival, one of the most important festivals in Thailand, is the traditional Thai New Year. The School of Business and Trade and the School of Economics and Management jointly held an event for international students from Thailand to alleviate their homesickness.
During the event, the international students and their Chinese companions played together a traditional Chinese game "Pitch-pot". After the assistants introduced the rules, the Thai students participated in it one after another. No matter whether they hit or not, everyone enjoyed it, experiencing the charm of China's traditional culture.
They participated in many team games such as "Balloon Relay", "Draw and Guess", and "Hula Hoop Delivery". Students formed teams freely regardless of nationality and cooperated to complete the game tasks. Their performance produced much mirth among the audience.
At the end of the event, all participants sent their best wishes to each other and took a group photo to memorize the moment.
The word Songkran comes from Sanskrit and means to move forward, referring to the path of the sun entering the Aries Palace. At this time, day and night are of equal length, marking the beginning of a new year in Thai culture. The Songkran Festival, usually held from April 13 to 15 in Thailand, is a traditional festival for celebrating the Buddhist new year and also a festival to express gratitude.
