WIST, October 27 -- In order to encourage Thai students studying abroad to improve their Chinese character proficiency, guide them to understand the meaning of Chinese characters, and appreciate the beauty of Chinese calligraphy, the School of Business and Trade (SBT) organized a visit to the Painting and Calligraphy Association. All Thai students, student assistants, and members of the Painting and Calligraphy Association participated in this activity.
At the teaching site, members of the Painting and Calligraphy Association first introduced students to the unique “Four Treasures of Study” in Chinese calligraphy and painting, namely pen, ink, paper, and inkstone. Later, they showcased the calligraphy works of former association members and instructed students in learning proper writing methods, posture, and composition. Under the patient guidance of the members, international students copied calligraphy from samples and attempted to write their Chinese names. “I am highly interested in Chinese calligraphy because it brings me relaxation and joy. Chinese is an incredibly rich language that does not rely on spelling with letters like most Western languages do. Chinese characters are pictographs, which I find fascinating," one of the participating international students said.
