WIST, March 27 -- The opening ceremony of the China-Thailand Cooperation Class between Wuhan Institute of Shipbuilding Technology (WIST) and
Nakhon Si Thammarat Seaboard Industrial College (NSIC) was held online. President Wei Shaofeng, vice secretary of the WIST Party Committee Chen Changjiang, vice provost Yu Fenghao, dean of the School of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering (SSOE) Chen Bin, deputy dean of SSOE Wu Chunfang, and deputy dean of the School of International Cultural Exchange (SICE) Nie Jide, as well as representatives of teachers and students from China and Thailand, attended the opening ceremony. Acting Sub Lt. Kitti Bannasopit, director of Vocational Education Center in Southern Region 1, Thailand, and Chaiyachet Yoiyangthong, director of Nakhon Shipbuilding Industry & Technology College, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Mo Xiaojin, dean of the School of International Cultural Exchange, presided over the ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Wei Shaofeng reviewed the history of successful cooperation between WIST and vocational education institutions and colleges in Thailand. He emphasized that the joint establishment of China-Thailand International College & Maritime Silk Road College with Thai institutions aims to jointly cultivate technical talents to meet the needs of “Thailand 4.0” and build a vocational education community. Wei warmly welcomed and congratulated the six students of the China-Thailand Cooperation Class and stated that WIST will continue to discuss and collaborate with Thai institutions in order to promote the high-quality development of vocational education, enabling skills to change lives and benefiting more students.

Bannasopit said he is delighted to see China and Thailand working together to provide students with outstanding international teaching teams, digital curriculum resources, and enriching cultural exchange activities. Yoiyangthong mentioned that the study of ship engineering technology courses, cultural exchanges between China and Thailand, and Chinese language courses will strengthen the close cooperation between colleges and universities in both countries.

Chen Bin introduced that Ship Engineering Technology is a key major at the Maritime Silk Road College. It possesses a national-level teaching team led by academicians and a national-level professional teaching resource library. With its distinctive features and advantages, it has implemented comprehensive programs for international students majoring in shipbuilding. China and Thailand will create a conducive learning environment to support students’ growth and talent development.

Watcharin Lawan, an international student representative from Thailand, expressed great encouragement towards the successful Sino-Thai academic education program. He mentioned that despite being at an early stage of learning Chinese, he is full of anticipation and confidence for his future professional studies in China. He and his classmates will strive together to embrace opportunities and challenges.
