WIST, June 4 -- Rich activities were held for international students to experience the Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival, which traditionally falls on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar to commemorate Chinese renowned patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who was also a minister of the State of Chu during the Warring States Period (475 B.C.E.-221 B.C.E.).
After learning the culture of the Dragon Boat Festival, together with their Chinese teachers and friends, the international students made sachets, knitted five-colored silk strings and wrapped zongzi, integrating their hope for a better life and longing for their families.
The cultural events were jointly held by the School of International Cultural Exchange, the School of Economics and Management, and the School of Business and Trade. Vice president of WIST Wang Zhenzhi participated and expressed good wishes to the faculty and students. (Photo by Wang Hongran)
