Learning new knowledge and mastering new trends: Teacher reps from SSOE participate in the 2023 Marintec China

WIST, December 5 -- The 2023 Marintec China, a highly anticipated event in the global maritime industry, opened grandly at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. This exhibition attracted over 2,000 enterprises from more than 30 countries and regions, with 42% of the exhibitors being from overseas. It achieved the highest overall scale in history and is renowned as the weather vane for the development trend of international maritime technology. Representatives from the School of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering (SSOE), including Hua Xiaotao, Zheng Yaxiong, and Yang Shuai, participated in this research project.

The focus of this exhibition and technical exchange is on being green, intelligent, and innovative. Among them, the most notable highlight is the unveiling of new ship design schemes. These design schemes not only showcase the latest concepts in ship design but also offer new development ideas for China’s maritime industry and even the global maritime industry. Additionally, new products and technologies from well-known domestic and international companies also made their debut at this exhibition, attracting significant attention and praise from a large number of visitors.

On the next morning the reps visited Waigaoqiao Shipyard. During the visit, the reps were able to gain insight into the internal operations of Waigaoqiao Shipyard and appreciate its unique charm and innovative spirit. They first visited the shipyard’s intelligent cruise processing production line and witnessed the entire process of intelligent operations, from design to manufacturing. They said this visit is not only a technical exchange but also an exploration and reflection on the future of shipbuilding processes. On-site, they conducted in-depth research and discussion on Waigaoqiao Shipyard’s intelligent cruise processing production line, expressing their admiration for its efficiency and accuracy in the shipbuilding process. They all expressed that this new shipbuilding mode not only improves production efficiency but also reduces the labor intensity of workers, making it the future direction of the shipbuilding industry. During the visit, they also paid special attention to the advanced technology and equipment used by Waigaoqiao Shipyard. For instance, the shipyard has introduced state-of-the-art 3D printing technology for manufacturing hull parts and mechanical components, significantly shortening manufacturing cycles and reducing costs. Additionally, Waigaoqiao Shipyard has implemented an intelligent material management and equipment testing system to ensure shipbuilding quality and progress.

Besides, the reps also visited the first luxury cruise ship in China, Adora Magic City. This cruise ship is not only stunning in appearance, but also exceptionally well-equipped, showcasing the strength and level of China’s shipbuilding industry. They highly praised the cruise ship’s technological advancement and safety, and expressed great confidence in the development of China’s shipbuilding industry. This visit undoubtedly provides a rare opportunity for technical exchanges, offering valuable practical experience and theoretical knowledge, according to the reps. They also mentioned that through this visit they have gained a deeper understanding of China’s shipbuilding industry and found inspiration and thoughts for their teaching work.
