WIST, November 24 -- The 11th “Arc Cup” International Welding Competition was held at Inner Mongolia Technical College of Mechanics & Electrics
from November 19 to 24. Qiu Peng from the School of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering (SSOE) and Wang Jing from the Industrial Center guided Xu Junhao from Class 23321, Li Niannian from Class 22321, and Meng Cheng from Class 21322 to form a team for the competition. After four days of intense competition, they won three individual bronze awards and a group bronze award.
According to the competition rules, three weldments must be completed for each welding method. Three positions must be selected from the eleven positions of plate butt weld, plate T-shaped fillet weld, and pipe butt weld for comparison. This year, the three positions selected include plate butt horizontal welding, pipe butt inclined at 45°, and T-shaped fillet horizontal welding, which have been the most challenging projects over the years. Due to the tight schedule and heavy tasks, this event was a significant test of skills and physical strength. Their contestants were able to finish all projects calmly, according to the teachers of SSOE. Through the competition and deep communication with outstanding welding talents in various industries, contestants have gained a lot. The teachers added it is believed that this will be an unforgettable and lifelong benefit for them.
